Friday Night Music August 30th 2019
Friday, Aug. 30 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Mad Dogs and No Englishmen recreates the classic sounds of Joe Cocker, from his smash debut at Woodstock to his more mature work of the 80s and 90s. (Remember Delta Lady and Chain of Fools?) The lineup features Don Thorp of the popular local band, The Donny Thorp Band, who delivers the Joe Cocker sound even better than Joe. Fellow DTB band-mates are also part of the Mad Dogs band: John Collison on keys and backup vocals, Mike Grattan on bass, and Jed Irvine on drums. Lead guitar is supplied by Bill Smyth, formerly of The Flow.
You can’t have a Joe Cocker tribute band without some female backup singers. You’ll hear the soulful sound of Melody Murphy, who performed in the local theatre productions Little Shop of Horrors and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and was the lead singer of the Albany band 49 Fingers. You’ll also hear Rita Brown, a local singer of many years and many band configurations including The Flow and Crooked Kate, voted 2010 Gazette-Times favorite singer.
If you are experiencing deja vu, you may be remembering Mad Dogs from their 2007 incarnation, when they played at Murphy’s Tavern, the Peacock, and the Red, White and Blues waterfront festival. Last year, Mad Dogs closed out Emerson Vineyards season to a record-setting crowd. Come early to get decent parking, a good picnic spot, and your wine before the show starts.
