Crooked Kate and Mad Dogs & No Englishmen
August 31st, 2018 6 PM to 9 PM
Crooked Kate is back (now as a duo) after a 10-year hiatus. It features folk singer Rita Brown and cellist Anne Ridlington, playing a blend of folk, pop and classical music. The inventive cello provides rich harmony with Rita’s voice and guitar. Anne, who plays cello with the Eugene Symphony, also does impressive solos.
They’re fun, and they’re GOOD.
Playing with them and after them is Mad Dogs & No Englishmen
Mad Dogs & No Englishmen recreates the classic sounds of Joe Cocker, from his smash debut at Woodstock to his more mature work of the 80s and 90s. The lineup features Don Thorp, of the popular local band Fate 55, who delivers the Joe Cocker sound even better than Joe Cocker. Lead guitar is supplied by Don’s Fate 55 bandmate Gale Farley. The band also includes the members of The Flow, familiar to Emerson audiences from previous years, and Melody Murphy-Kirk, who performed in local theatre productions Little Shop of Horrors and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and was the lead singer of the Albany band 49 Fingers. If you are experiencing deja vu, you may be remembering Mad Dogs from their 2007 incarnation, when they played several shows at Murphy’s Tavern, the Peacock, and the Red, White and Blues waterfront festival.
